Mauritius at the center of the next US-Africa Summit

Strategic Discussions in Washington

The organization of the 18th US-Africa Business Summit, scheduled to take place in Mauritius in July 2026, was a key focus of Foreign Minister Ritish Ramful’s mission to Washington, D.C.

This international gathering already positions Mauritius at the heart of economic exchanges between Africa and the United States. During his visit, the Minister held numerous discussions with the Corporate Council on Africa to advance preparations for the summit. The event is expected to bring together political leaders, investors, and business executives. The objective is to strengthen economic partnerships and create new opportunities between the two continents.

Accompanied by the Minister of Industry, SMEs, and Cooperatives, Aadil Ameer Meea, Ritish Ramful also met with several American officials. Discussions with Christopher Landau focused on developing trade relations between the two countries. They also discussed security issues in the Indian Ocean region and the Chagos Archipelago, with a call to expedite ongoing efforts.

This delegation also held discussions with representatives from the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs. These exchanges highlighted a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and attracting more investment to Mauritius, within a stable and business-friendly economic climate.

Furthermore, the mission explored opportunities in the digital sector. A National Sovereign Cloud project was discussed with the Broadcom Group, within the framework of the Digital Transformation Blueprint 2025–2029. This project aims to improve the country’s data management and security.
