The Mayor of Victoria Meets with the President of Seychelles
Several initiatives to improve urban life were presented this Tuesday, March 24, 2026, by the Mayor of Victoria, Josie Michaud-Payet, during a meeting with the President of Seychelles, Patrick Herminie.
The objective of this meeting was to share a comprehensive vision and a strategic roadmap for the development of the capital, aiming to make it a culturally vibrant, historically preserved, and economically dynamic city.
Reflecting on her first three weeks in office, the Mayor explained that her transition had gone smoothly, thanks to active dialogue with the community, development partners, and the diplomatic corps. She emphasized the importance of inclusive governance and regular consultations to ensure that policies reflect the needs and aspirations of the residents.
At the heart of her vision, several concrete projects were presented to modernize the city. Extending business hours beyond 4 p.m. is one of the key measures, designed to stimulate economic activity, facilitate access to goods and services, and make the city more vibrant in the evenings.
Public safety is also a priority. The mayor proposed the creation of a dedicated police unit in Victoria to improve response times and coordination in addressing urban challenges, and to strengthen the confidence of residents and visitors.
To support the implementation of these projects, Josie Michaud-Payet presented the “Victoria Refleri” Fund. This innovative platform will mobilize resources from private developers, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to finance initiatives that will enhance the city’s attractiveness and long-term value.
President Herminie commended the mayor’s leadership and strategic clarity. The Head of State advised consolidating the initiatives within a structured framework to be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers to ensure coordinated and sustainable implementation.
