Experts and Stakeholders Mobilized

Regional President Huguette Bello officially launched the GREC-Réunion (Regional Climate Expert Group) at the MoCA regional estate on January 27, 2026.

Faced with increasingly pressing climate challenges, this group aims to understand, anticipate, and act to protect the island and its inhabitants.

The GREC is a continuation of the Regional Development Plan and reflects the Region’s commitment to building a sustainable and resilient territory. The objective is to address vulnerabilities and connect local scientific knowledge with realities on the ground to better guide decisions and actions.

The group brings together all stakeholders in the region: local authorities, institutions, businesses, associations, educational establishments, and awareness-raising organizations. The idea is to work together to develop concrete solutions tailored to the needs of the population and the challenges of climate change.

For Huguette Bello, climate change is no longer a distant theory. “The climate, biodiversity, and drought crises are compounding each other. These phenomena are becoming more intense and affect each of us every day. Ecological transition and adaptation to climate change cannot be decreed. These situations are built collectively, with established facts, solid assessments, and courageous choices,” she explained.

The launch of GREC-Réunion marks an important step for the Region. Thanks to this group of experts, Réunion will be better able to anticipate the impacts of global warming, protect its biodiversity, and strengthen the resilience of its inhabitants. The recommendations produced will guide public policies, development projects, and public awareness campaigns.
