Antananarivo Gives Women’s Voices a Voice
Antananarivo experienced an intense week from March 12th to 16th with the «Speak Out, Women’s Words » festival.
This event, organized by the Urban Municipality of Antananarivo and the Île-de-France Regional Council, with the support of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, highlighted the importance of women’s voices in Malagasy society.
On March 12th, the Madagascar Museum of Photography hosted the opening of the exhibition « Women, Audacity, Heritage: Portraits ». Eleven photographs showcased prominent female figures in the country’s history. Many visitors shared their emotion as they witnessed these faces, which recount journeys of courage and determination. The exhibition, inaugurated in the presence of the French Ambassador, Anne Louise Mesadieu of the Île-de-France Regional Council, and the Mayor of Antananarivo, Harilala Ramanantsoa, will remain open until June.
The festival officially launched on March 14th in the Antaninarenina Garden. Marc Serviès, First Counselor of the French Embassy, and representatives of partner institutions emphasized the importance of this space dedicated to women’s rights. The Women’s Rights Village allowed associations and the public to discuss the challenges related to gender equality and fundamental rights.
Throughout the week, conferences, workshops, and screenings enlivened the debates and strengthened mobilization. The event highlighted women’s struggles and aspirations, reminding us that their voice is essential to building a fairer and more inclusive society.
