Culture at the heart of the 50th anniversary of independence according to Azali Assoumani
At the closing ceremony of the Gombessa Festival, President Azali Assoumani praised the efforts to promote Comorian culture.
Before an enthusiastic audience, a strong call was made to strengthen state support for cultural initiatives. The Head of State emphasized that the celebration of 50 years of independence must also involve the preservation of traditions.
The evening of May 31 marked the end of a week of festivities with the finals of the traditional dance, a cappella singing, and judo compétitions. In the men’s dance category, the Wegni Nguwu troupe from Ikoni won first prize, followed by UJS from Ikoni and Amani Ngoma from Songomani. On the women’s side, Wenyi Ngazi from Moroni was crowned champion.
The scoring system includes five points awarded based on the number of tickets sold. Ikoni groups, which host the finals in their home country, often benefit from massive support from the local public, which works in their favor.
In singing, Darkaoui Hassane’s voice captivated the jury and spectators with a moving song dedicated to motherhood. One jury member recognized the power of the theme, which easily touches hearts.
