Strategic Projects Under Discussion
Economic development and investment prospects were at the heart of the courtesy visit paid on November 7, 2025, by the Ambassador of Japan to Madagascar, ABE Koji, to ANDRIAMPARANY Carl, Minister of Mines, at the Ministry’s offices in Ampandrianomby.
The Ambassador took the opportunity to congratulate the Minister on his appointment and to announce Japan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Madagascar.
ABE Koji emphasized the importance of bilateral relations and expressed his commitment to supporting Malagasy projects in various sectors. The Minister of Mines noted that the mining sector has a robust legal and regulatory framework. He specified that Ambatovy is currently the only project governed by the Law on Major Mining Investments (LGIM) and highlighted the strategic role of SUMITOMO, the project’s majority shareholder. “Having a partner who supports our initiatives represents a real opportunity for the development of the mining sector,” he added.
Andriamparany Carl also mentioned Japanese cooperation beyond the mining sector, citing the expansion of the port of Toamasina, financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This project aims to modernize infrastructure, strengthen logistical capacity, and support Madagascar’s international trade.
The meeting also served as a farewell to His Excellency Abe Koji before his departure from Madagascar. The Minister thanked the diplomat for his role in strengthening economic and industrial ties between the two countries and expressed his hope for continued successful cooperation.
