The Mananasy-Soavinadriana road renovated by the Casef project

This project is supported by the World Bank

The 12 km road connecting Soavinadriana to Mananasy in the Itasy region has recently undergone renovation. This project was executed by the Agricultural Growth and Land Securitization (Casef) project under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Minae), in collaboration with the Ministry of Decentralization and Land Management (MDAT).

The World Bank-supported project has transformed the 12 km road from Soavinadriana to Mananasy in the Itasy region, drastically reducing travel time from over three hours to just a few minutes. This improvement has revolutionized transportation of agricultural produce, shifting from tractors and off-road motorcycles to buses and Bajajs for local residents.

According to local farmers, the rehabilitated road has enhanced harvesting and supplies to up to 70% of the surrounding areas. Furthermore, the new infrastructure encourages crop rotation and supports increased production, thereby boosting incomes.

The benefits of the road renovation are particularly significant for the commune of Mananasy, an agriculturally productive area west of Soavinadriana. It enables full exploitation of local resources such as lakes, hot springs, and rivers, which also contributes to the tourism sector.

Beyond infrastructure, the road project under the Casef initiative has had far-reaching impacts. Approximately 6,000 farmers in the commune of Mananasy have received land certificates, thanks to the Casef project, securing their rights to farm legally and ensuring sustainable development.
