Strengthening economic ties between Mauritius and Southeast Asian countries

A delegation of businessmen from Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand was welcomed at the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).

The objective of this meeting was to strengthen economic ties between Mauritius and these Southeast Asian countries. Fruitful exchanges and B2B sessions with MCCI members marked this period.

The executive chairman of the Paradise Group of Companies led the delegation, accompanied by Mauritius’ High Commissioner to Malaysia, Jagdishwar Goburdhun. The delegation members came from various essential fields such as tourism and hotel development, retail, information technology, online commerce, investment, and compostable plastics production.

During the event, Dr. Drishtysingh Ramdenee, Secretary-General of the MCCI, led the exchanges. Patrice Marie, Vice-President of the MCCI, Rooma Narrainen Pillay, Head of Advocacy, and Nishta Surajbali-Servansingh, Economist, were also present.

Dr. Ramdenee highlighted the existing trade links. In 2023, Mauritius exported about 12 % of its goods to Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. These figures illustrate the growing importance of these markets for Mauritius.
