A New Lease of Life for Madagascar’s Airports
The Malagasy government has decided to allocate €3 million to ADEMA (Airports of Madagascar). This sum corresponds to one year’s concession fees, approved by the Council of Ministers on December 22nd.
The objective is to finance urgent work to strengthen the safety and smooth operation of the country’s airports.
For several years, ADEMA has faced a lack of resources. Without the revenue from concession payments, it became difficult to maintain runways, navigation equipment, and provide emergency resources. This situation led to a gradual deterioration of infrastructure and repeated breakdowns at several sites.
Thanks to this financial assistance, ADEMA will be able to quickly launch the necessary work to bring the facilities up to standard and guarantee passenger safety. The interventions will concern both major airports and those in the regions, in order to ensure the continuity of air traffic and preserve economic and tourism activity.
According to local authorities, this decision demonstrates the government’s commitment to prioritizing air safety. By supporting ADEMA, the state aims to make the airport network safer and more reliable, serving national development. As the official statement reiterated, “Safe, functional, and reliable airports are a cornerstone of the country’s development.”
