Thermosensitive medicines : Ice packs at Jovena stations

Ensuring medicine logistics

Vehicles transporting thermosensitive medicines will no longer be fueled solely by gasoline at Jovena service stations. They will also have the option to replenish their ice supplies to better preserve the valuable cargo they carry.

This Tuesday, the central pharmaceutical procurement agency Salama and the petroleum distribution company Jovena signed an agreement to ensure the logistics of medicines requiring storage temperatures between 2°C and 8°C.

By the Ice Pack project concluded between the two parties, « ice packs » will be pre-installed and stored at Jovena service stations, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. These ice packs can maintain the required temperature for up to 11 days. Transporters from Salama will then collect them to ensure the quality of medicines during their transport to hospitals and pharmacies.

According to Donald Emerant, General Manager of Jovana, the 113 service stations spread across the country are equipped with freezers that ensure a continuous cold chain for medicines, even in the most remote regions.
