Improving the quality of veterinary services
On Monday, July 8, the Department of Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security unveiled Mauritius’ first mobile veterinary clinic, costing 192,000 USD.
This milestone was achieved with the involvement of the SEGA – One Health network of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC). Funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union (EU), the organization also distributed medical equipment to veterinary service agents.
According to Mahen Seeruttun, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, the new mobile clinic is equipped with various medical tools. Among the essential equipment are a microscope for laboratory tests, secure storage for medications, a disinfection system, and a refrigerator for post-mortem examinations. These initiatives significantly improve the quality of veterinary services. The advancements also enhance efficiency in performing cesarean sections, pregnancy ultrasounds, and rapid disease diagnostics.
