Expanding and modernizing dialysis services
New dialysis units are being opened, and equipment is being upgraded as dialysis services expand in Mauritius. Previously available only in five regional hospitals, including Souillac and Montagne-Longue, these services are now more accessible.
With the recent opening of a new unit at the Médiclinique in Quartier-Militaire, there are now eight dialysis units in public institutions. Additionally, six private clinics are partnering with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to provide dialysis care. As a result, approximately 1,500 patients can now receive treatment in both public hospitals and private clinics.
The supervising Minister, Kailesh Jagutpal, explained that over the past five years, his ministry has consistently expanded and modernized renal dialysis services in all hospitals to ensure optimal patient care. New dialysis facilities have been created, and state-of-the-art dialysis devices have been purchased and installed in various units.
In January 2019, Dr. A. G. Jeetoo Hospital opened a second dialysis unit with 26 machines, allowing around 150 patients in the region to receive their treatment. In February 2021, Montagne Longue Hospital opened a new unit with 20 machines to accommodate 110 patients. In March 2022, following the pandemic, Souillac Hospital was renovated and expanded, improving its services.
