A Mission to Boost Production in Anosy
The Anosy and Bongolava regions are currently among the main red chili pepper production areas.
This export product has significant, yet largely untapped, potential to support the national economy and improve producers’ incomes. On March 18 and 19, 2026, the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Affairs (MinCC) conducted a mission to the Anosy region to gain a better understanding of the realities on the ground. The delegation was led by Secretary General Misa Rasolofoarison, accompanied by several officials, including the Director of Legal Affairs, the Director of Foreign Trade Promotion, and the Head of the Quality and Packaging Department.
During these two days in Taolagnaro, several activities were organized. A workshop brought together key stakeholders in the chili pepper sector, providing an opportunity to discuss the challenges encountered and potential solutions. The delegation also participated in the PACOBA General Assembly, an important forum for dialogue and coordination of activities in the region.
On the ground, the officials visited a red chili processing plant and production sites. These visits provided a firsthand look at the working conditions and practices of the producers. Meetings with cooperatives were also organized, giving producers a voice regarding their needs, particularly in terms of quality, training, and market access.
This mission is part of a collaboration with the PIC Project (Integrated Growth Pole), which aims to further develop the sector. This initiative primarily allowed the ministry’s technicians to listen, observe, and gain a better understanding of the challenges on the ground.
