Government reverses decision on minimum price
The government has reconsidered its decision to set a minimum price of less than one dollar per gigabyte of internet, according to the Ministry of Digital Development, Posts, and Telecommunications (MNDPT). Following the announcement on Friday, May 3, 2024, there was no immediate reaction.
Operators have yet to react promptly. Telecommunications service providers confirm no impact from tariffs implemented since March 28th. Internet rates remain unchanged as of this Monday, consistent with a month ago. Speculation among the public arises regarding the potential return of special offers for social networks or similar services previously enjoyed by users.
The ministerial order establishing minimum prices was revoked on Friday. The MNDPT stated that this measure aimed to promote fair competition and reduce expenses for end-users. This modification follows an evaluation of pricing practices initiated by the decree setting internet prices at less than one dollar per gigabyte.
