Three agreements signed between the Comoros and Egypt

Towards Strengthened Cooperation

Three agreements were signed during Comorian President Azali Assoumani’s official visit to Egypt, aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.

Returning to Moroni on May 5, Comorian Foreign Minister Mbae Mohamed declared the visit diplomatically satisfactory and described the meeting between the two Presidents as fruitful.

The first agreement signed is a framework cooperation agreement, which will allow for the establishment of a joint commission between the two countries. The second provides for visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and service passports. Finally, an agreement to establish a political consultation mechanism was also signed. The Minister recalled the historical importance of relations between the Comoros and Egypt, particularly with regard to the training of numerous Comorian executives.

On the sidelines of the visit, Mbae Mohamed met with several Egyptian officials, including the President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee and the Minister of Youth, to discuss preparations for the Indian Ocean Island Games to be held in the Comoros in 2027. Egypt expressed its willingness to support the organization of this major event by sending a delegation of experts.

Regarding agriculture, Egypt offered to share its expertise and assist in the training of Comorian executives. A specific agreement will be signed in the coming months. Mbae Mohamed also discussed with the Minister of Higher Education the strengthening of academic cooperation and the provision of more scholarships to Comorian students.

Finally, Mohamed discussed with the Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation issues related to aviation safety and aircraft maintenance. He also expressed the hope that Egyptair would reestablish a direct service between the Comoros and Egypt. These agreements and discussions demonstrate the commitment of both countries to strengthen their cooperation in various sectors.
