A Partnership for Tangible Results for the People
During his visit to France from February 23 to 25, 2026, Michaël Randrianirina, President of the Refoundation of Madagascar, was received at the Élysée Palace by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The French President commended Madagascar’s progress within the framework of the Refoundation, emphasizing the authorities’ commitment to strengthening trust in institutions, restoring the State to the service of the common good, and meeting the expectations of the population, particularly young people. He reaffirmed France’s support for free and transparent elections in accordance with the established timetable.
In a complex international context, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to building a balanced and concrete partnership focused on tangible results for the people of both countries. The two presidents established three priorities for the next 24 months: strengthening political cooperation, supporting economic and social development, and continuing cooperation in security and defense.
The private sector also plays a central role. The GEM (Group of Companies of Madagascar) and MEDEF International will commit to a strategic investment plan aligned with national priorities. These projects aim to create jobs, develop local skills, and encourage inclusive and sustainable growth.
In response to recent disasters, France provided 20 tons of humanitarian aid and nearly 50 technical experts and civil security personnel to assist populations affected by Cyclones Fytia and Gezani. Since October 2025, new cooperation projects have been launched totaling nearly €70 million, including the Volobe hydroelectric dam, the development of the blue economy, and the improvement of port infrastructure in Antsiranana.
