Strengthening relations between the two countries
During the first Russia-Africa Ministerial Conference in Sochi, Rasata and Lavrov evaluated the bilateral partnership between Madagascar and Russia.
Malagasy Foreign Minister Rafaravavitafika Rasata and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met in Sochi from November 9 to 10, 2024. This gathering, part of the inaugural Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, aimed to assess and enhance the bilateral relationship between Madagascar and Russia.
According to Madagascar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this meeting is part of a broader plan to strengthen Russia’s relations with African countries. Following commitments made at the second Russia-Africa summit in 2023, the conference marks a significant step for Russia in solidifying its alliances across Africa, including with Madagascar.
Though specific details of the discussions between Rasata and Lavrov remain undisclosed, the meeting highlighted cooperation between the two nations, focusing on deepening engagement in various sectors such as trade, education, and diplomacy.
