Fostering tourism partnerships between the two nations
Isaac Njenga Gatitu, the inaugural High Commissioner of Kenya to Seychelles, pledges to bolster the robust relations between the two countries. He presented his credentials to Seychellois President Wavel Ramkalawan on May 6, 2024.
Kenya and Seychelles, both members of the Commonwealth and the African Union, share a longstanding history. A significant Kenyan community in Seychelles contributes to various sectors such as fishing, education, and tourism.
Gatitu highlighted opportunities for enhanced cooperation in tourism, proposing package deals for travelers between the two nations. Additionally, both countries collaborate in defense and security, particularly in combating piracy in the region. « We are exploring ways to strengthen our cooperation in maritime security, defense, and intelligence sharing to address this challenge, » noted the newly accredited High Commissioner.
In agriculture, Kenya’s success in « maximizing production with limited arable land presents opportunities for knowledge exchange with Seychelles ». Gatitu also acknowledged Seychelles’ expertise in fishing and the blue economy, suggesting potential learning opportunities for Kenyans in this field.
