China and France support the Comoros

Strategic Dialogue between Diplomats

The Emerging Comoros Plan 2030, designed to stimulate economic growth and reduce poverty in the Union of the Comoros, was the focus of discussions between the Chinese Ambassador to the Comoros, Huang Zheng, and his French counterpart, Étienne Chapon, on October 8 at the Chinese Embassy in Moroni.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry published a report of the meeting on its Facebook page.

Xia Yin and André Blanchard, counselors from both embassies, participated in the meeting. Huang Zheng presented the results of the China-Comoros strategic partnership, spearheaded by Presidents Xi Jinping and Azali Assoumani.

The Chinese diplomat emphasized the need to support the Comorian government in implementing the Plan, focusing on poverty reduction, infrastructure, and social development.

The latter proposed enhanced coordination with France to develop tripartite cooperation beneficial to the Comoros.

Étienne Chapon recalled France’s historic commitment to the archipelago, particularly in education, justice, and finance. This official expressed Paris’s openness to increased collaboration with China, through a complementary approach, in order to promote sustainable economic and social development.
