Madagascar lags behind the continent in milk consumption. While the average African gulps down over 40 liters annually, Madagascar residents average a meager 7 liters per year.

The Big Island joined over 48 other countries on June 1st to celebrate World Milk Day, promoting milk consumption and boosting the dairy industry. Parvis Analakely hosted the festivities, led by Agriculture and Livestock Minister Suzelin R. Ratohiarijaona.

Co-organized by the Malagasy Dairy Board (MDB) under the EU-funded Profi-Lait project, the event aimed to highlight the importance of milk for health and well-being. Attendees enjoyed milk tastings, explored dairy product displays, and even witnessed milk quality testing demonstrations by local MDB-Profi-Lait technicians.

The success of Profi-Lait in Analamanga and Itasy regions paves the way for its expansion to Vakinankaratra, further strengthening the country’s dairy sector.
