Canada-Africa Business Conference

In February, the 2nd Canada-Africa Trade Conference in Nairobi will allow stakeholders to explore investment avenues. The Canada-Africa Business Conference reflects the growing economic ties between the two regions.

Conference to promote Canadian investment in Africa

Nairobi will host the second Canada-Africa Business Conference scheduled for February 2024 as North America seeks to expand its regional investments. The Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce announced that the annual gathering on February 19-20, 2024, in Nairobi, will be inaugurated by Kenyan President William Ruto. The objective is to promote bilateral trade relations and investment opportunities between Africa and Canada.

The conference will serve as a platform for government officials, business leaders, and entrepreneurs from both countries to engage in constructive dialogue, explore potential collaborations, and showcase innovations across various sectors. Event Program Chair Deepak Dave stated that the Canada-Africa Business Conference represents an opportunity to explore investment avenues, thereby strengthening ties between Canada and Africa.

Key Topics of the Canada-Africa Business Conference

During the inaugural conference, key themes included renewable energy, agriculture, technology, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Sessions featured expert panels discussing market trends, regulatory frameworks, and investment incentives. The framework provided valuable insights for participants seeking to expand their businesses or establish new partnerships.

Canada is one of Kenya’s and Africa’s major trading partners. Kenya’s exports to Canada were estimated at 18.71 million USD in 2022, according to the United Nations International Trade Database. President Ruto will accompany Maninder Sidhu, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade, and Economic Development, collaborating with the Canadian High Commission in Kenya.

African industry leaders expected

In collaboration with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and the Canadian High Commission, the conference will bring together industry leaders for a comprehensive program at the prestigious Muthaiga Country Club, followed by a VIP reception on February 19, 2024.

The program will extend to a second day of site visits in Nairobi on February 20. As Kenya and Canada share a commitment to economic growth and sustainable development, the conference emphasizes leveraging the strengths and resources of each country to drive innovation and address common challenges.

« We are delighted to be working with the Canada-Africa Chamber of Commerce and look forward to the forum to promote trade and investment between Canada and our great African continent. This forum aims to broaden the scope of opportunities available in healthcare, infrastructure, energy, FinTech, and project financing », said Carole Kariuki, CEO of KEPSA.

While Africa and Canada continue to navigate the post-pandemic recovery and pursue ambitious development goals, forums like these play a crucial role in fostering cross-border cooperation and opening new opportunities for prosperity and progress.
