The 5th edition of the AFIS Awards, held on the sidelines of the 5th Africa Financial Summit (AFIS) in Casablanca, celebrated the excellence of Moroccan finance. Two leading figures in the sector were recognized for their key role in the stability and financial influence of Morocco and Africa.
Abdellatif Jouahri, African Central Banker of the Year
The Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib, Abdellatif Jouahri, received the prestigious title of “African Central Bank Governor.” This distinction underscores his two decades of commitment to Morocco’s monetary stability. Under his leadership, the central bank has strengthened the dirham, reinforced banking regulations, and led a transition toward greater exchange rate flexibility. His leadership is now recognized as exemplary across Africa and inspires several central banks on the continent.
Mohamed El Kettani Named “African Banker”
The Chairman and CEO of Attijariwafa Bank, Mohamed El Kettani, has been honored with the title of “African Banker” thanks to remarkable performance. In 2024, the group recorded a 29% increase in its consolidated net income and has a network of 5,900 branches in more than fifteen African countries. This expansion illustrates Attijariwafa Bank’s strategic position in financing intra-African trade, supporting local SMEs, and promoting financial inclusion across the continent.
Recognition of Innovative and Sustainable African Finance
The AFIS Awards, organized in partnership with Forvis Mazars, celebrate each year the leaders, institutions, and innovators who contribute to a stronger, more inclusive, and more resilient African financial system. The jury, composed of independent experts, selects the winners based on rigorous criteria of impact, innovation, and sustainability. This edition also recognized key players in categories such as “African Fund,” “African Woman in Finance,” “African Disruptor,” and “African Insurer.”
A flagship event for the African financial sector
The AFIS Awards ceremony took place in the presence of the most influential figures in the African financial sector, bringing together business leaders, regulators, investors, and public decision-makers. These awards illustrate not only the dynamism and rigor of Moroccan finance but also its central role in economic and social transformation across the continent.
