14th World Congress of Consuls in Marrakech

From October 29 to November 1, 2025, Marrakech is honored to host the 14th World Congress of Consuls, a major international event bringing together honorary consuls from five continents. Organized jointly by the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) and the Union of Honorary Consuls in Morocco (UCHM), this congress confirms Morocco’s growing role as a platform for global diplomatic dialogue.

A major international event

This 14th edition marks an important milestone for the World Federation of Consuls, founded in 1982 and now bringing together more than 9,000 honorary consuls in 95 countries. For the first time, Morocco is hosting this global event, symbolizing its role in parallel diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.

A program rich in debates and exchanges

The congress opens with speeches by personalities such as Nikolaos K. Margaropoulos, President of FICAC, and Atman Haloui, President of UCHM, as well as Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, former President of the Republic of Croatia. Two major panels will be the focus of the day on October 30:

“Bridging Nations in Modern Times”: This panel explores new levers for bringing people together through consular diplomacy, youth, culture, and humanitarian action.

“Navigating Modern Diplomacy”: it addresses the contemporary challenges of globalized diplomacy, including public health, international solidarity, climate issues, the protection of citizens abroad, cybersecurity, and technological innovations.

A Strategic Electoral General Assembly

The congress also includes the FICAC Elective General Assembly, during which a new Board of Directors will be elected. This key moment allows for the definition of the strategic directions of the global consular network for the years to come.

Marrakech, a global crossroads of parallel diplomacy

By hosting this event, Morocco affirms its role as a regional and international platform for dialogue, exchange, and cooperation. The Union of Honorary Consuls in Morocco (UCHM) thus highlights the Kingdom’s vocation to strengthen ties between nations through consular diplomacy, while contributing to economic, cultural, and institutional development.

A Major Diplomatic Event

This congress establishes Marrakech as an important crossroads of modern diplomacy, fostering the encounter of cultures and international cooperation. It also demonstrates Morocco’s growing importance in global diplomatic networks, highlighting the missions of honorary consuls as essential players in a diplomacy closer to the people.

The 14th World Congress of Consuls in Marrakech demonstrates how crucial parallel diplomacy is in bringing nations closer together and addressing global challenges together. To support these efforts and contribute to Morocco’s international outreach, share this news on your networks, engage in discussions on diplomatic issues, and raise awareness among your circles of the importance of global cooperation.
