3.7 million USD for vocational training

The Japanese government has provided a significant grant to Madagascar to strengthen technical training in the mining sector.

A signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to formalize this project. The grant will be used to equip three technical high schools: Toamasina, Alarobia, and Ampasapito. These schools will receive welding, mechanical manufacturing, electronics, and other equipment to better train students in technical professions.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including Yamada Shigechika, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Japan; Rasoloarisoa Marie Marcelline, Minister of Technical Education; Sahivelo Lala Monja Delphin, Minister of the Armed Forces; and Odawara Kosuke, the new JICA representative in Madagascar. In his speech, Yamada emphasized that youth training is essential to the country’s development. The latter recalled that Japan already supports several projects in this area and that this new donation will help train qualified technicians for the mining sector.

The official also discussed the TICAD 9 conference, which will be held next August in Yokohama, Japan. This conference aims to strengthen partnerships between Japan and African countries. Japan thus reaffirms its commitment to supporting Madagascar on its path to development, particularly through education and vocational training.
