Ghana – UK: Strengthening Trade Relations

From 19 to 22 May 2025, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, the UK’s Special Trade Envoy to Ghana, will make her first official visit to the country. Appointed in January 2025 by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, she is part of the UK’s global network of trade envoys promoting British commercial interests in over 70 countries.

Expanding Trade Opportunities

During this four-day mission, which is taking place between Accra and Kumasi, Ms. Ribeiro-Addy will meet with Ghanaian political leaders, including the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, and the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare. She will also meet with other senior government officials, traditional leaders, representatives from academia, British companies operating in Ghana, and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

The discussions will focus on expanding trade and investment opportunities, strengthening bilateral economic cooperation, and identifying areas of shared growth. In Kumasi, the delegate will visit two major projects supported by UK Export Finance: Kumasi Airport and the maternity unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, illustrating the United Kingdom’s support for infrastructure development in the Ashanti region.

Promoting cooperation on inclusive economic development

She also chaired a roundtable discussion with the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus, aimed at promoting cooperation on inclusive economic development and women’s leadership.

Bell Ribeiro-Addy said she was honored to represent the United Kingdom in Ghana and looked forward to strengthening trade relations and exploring new avenues of collaboration for a more prosperous economic future for both countries. The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, emphasized that this visit demonstrates the shared commitment to strengthened international partnerships and inclusive prosperity.
