Professor Balla Diop Ngom has been appointed Vice-President for West Africa of the African Academy of Sciences. He will serve a three-year term, from 2026 to 2029, according to an official source reported by the Senegalese Press Agency (APS).
A professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in Dakar, Professor Ngom is distinguished by his research and commitment to higher education. His career highlights a strong dedication to academic excellence and scientific innovation in Africa.
UCAD and the African scientific community welcome this recognition of his efforts and contributions to science. His election enhances the visibility of Senegalese expertise in the field of research.
In his new role, Professor Ngom will participate in the African Academy of Sciences’ scholarship and award programs. He will also contribute to discussions on science, technology, and innovation policies in Africa.
The new Vice-President will also contribute to projects related to the continent’s major challenges, including the environment, health, governance and social sciences.
