Infrastructure, Employment, and Vanilla at the Heart of Discussions

The vanilla sector, a key local economic driver in the SAVA region, was the focus of a meeting between the President of the Refoundation of the Republic, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, and the residents of Antalaha, in the Tranom-pokonolona district.

A flagship product of the region and the main source of income for many families, vanilla remains a strategic sector but faces several challenges. During this exchange, the management of funds related to the National Vanilla Council (CNV), estimated at approximately 35 tons per year, was discussed. The President emphasized the need to consult all stakeholders, including producers and the local population, before making any decisions concerning this sensitive sector.

Discussions also addressed the economic challenges related to infrastructure. In Ambatofisaka, although electricity is generated locally, the lack of a transformer still limits distribution, hindering economic activity and the daily lives of residents.

The issue of natural resources was also addressed, particularly rosewood. The Head of State indicated that this resource could generate significant revenue for the country, while reminding everyone that Madagascar must respect its international commitments, notably the CITES convention.

On the social front, the government plans to improve access to healthcare by installing CT scanners and dialysis units in regional capitals. This should reduce the costly journeys to Antananarivo for patients.

In the area of employment, approximately 9,000 positions are open for recruitment in the civil service. The President emphasized the transparency of the process and encouraged the public to report any form of corruption.
