The Ministry Presents its Structuring Projects
Several concrete actions already implemented on the ground were presented at a press conference held by the Ministry of Agriculture at the end of December. The objective was to review agricultural, livestock, and fisheries strategies, as well as projects aimed at sustainably strengthening the sector.
Among the initiatives, cows and chicks were distributed to farmers, along with feed, while twenty chicken coops were installed to allow for the raising of approximately one thousand birds. One hundred and twenty cows were also allocated to various beneficiaries to support local livestock farming. In the fisheries sector, specialized equipment was provided to improve safety at sea and the quality of catches. In addition, fourteen solar-powered cold storage facilities, as well as storage tanks, were installed to ensure better preservation of fishery products.
According to Mohamed Fouad, Director of Agricultural Strategies, these actions aim to facilitate access to production areas and directly support producers. “We plan to build rural roads to connect fields to markets, provide quality seeds – cassava, sweet potato, and maize – and reduce production costs,” he explained.
At the same time, Hamza Ali, Director General of INRAPE (National Institute for Agricultural, Fisheries, and Environmental Research), emphasized the importance of scientific research in guiding public policy. He stated, “We are conducting studies on lobster populations, animal health, in vitro cultures, the control of imported food, and the identification of suitable soils, plants, and fertilizers.”
With these measures, the Ministry hopes to modernize the agricultural sectors, support producers, and increase national production. “The combination of on-the-ground actions, scientific research, and appropriate infrastructure clearly demonstrates its commitment to improving the efficiency and productivity of the sector,” he added.
