Kenya is keen to capitalize on Morocco’s experience in combating cybercrime. During a recent meeting in Nairobi, Kenyan Attorney General Renson Ng’onga highlighted the significant progress made by Morocco in this area. He expressed Kenya’s desire to deepen this cooperation in order to strengthen its capacity to combat transnational electronic crimes.
A formal framework for cooperation and intensified technical exchanges
This cooperation is part of a memorandum of understanding signed in 2023 between the Kenyan and Moroccan prosecutors’ offices. The discussions focus on:
- Technical assistance
- Implementation of joint training programs
- Exchange of judicial best practices
The two parties agreed to strengthen their collaboration, particularly through continuing education for prosecutors and the sharing of expertise in digital forensics.
Shared objectives for effective justice
Beyond cybercrime, bilateral cooperation also aims to combat transnational organized crime, corruption, and economic offenses. This strategic alliance between Morocco and Kenya is considered an essential lever for consolidating judicial sector reform and better combating cross-border crime in the region.
A mutually beneficial and lasting partnership
The Moroccan Ambassador to Kenya and South Sudan, Abdelrazak Laasel, reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting this dynamic through an active and mutually beneficial partnership. Technical exchanges and joint efforts must aim to sustainably strengthen the capacities of institutions responsible for justice and digital security. This contributes to a more secure environment for citizens and businesses.
