Diene Keita is appointed Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and becomes Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.
A Guinean lawyer, she has thirty years of experience at the United Nations, with recognized expertise in reproductive health and rights.
Her career began at the UNDP in 1990, before rising through the ranks on three continents. Former Minister Delegate for Cooperation and African Integration in Guinea, Keita coordinated UN programs in Mauritania, Benin, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, managing humanitarian crises and development projects.
As head of the UNFPA offices in Nigeria and the DRC, SG has demonstrated her ability to address complex challenges related to demographics, maternal health, and family planning. A graduate of the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and multilingual, the director carries the voice of UNFPA internationally and embodies African expertise in global governance.
