Thierry de Bailleul reappointed as head of Madagascar Airlines

Thierry de Bailleul has been reappointed as CEO of Madagascar Airlines. In a press release published on August 27, 2025, the CEO announced that he had agreed to extend his term at the request of the Malagasy government and the Board of Directors.

Since his appointment in December 2022, Thierry de Bailleul has launched the “Phénix 2023” plan to turn the company around. This plan includes fleet modernization, digital transformation, and strengthening international partnerships. The CEO draws on his experience gained at renowned airlines such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Air France-KLM.

The company now benefits from the support of the World Bank, with a total of USD 65 million in financing already mobilized and more than USD 80 million in preparation for the company and its infrastructure. The success of this plan depends on the rapid implementation of certain conditions, such as the acquisition of Air Madagascar and Tsaradia assets, and the exemption from duties and taxes on aircraft equipment.
