Simon Trott has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto, the world’s second-largest mining group. He is scheduled to take office on August 25, replacing Jakob Stausholm, who led the company for nearly five years.
An expert with 25 years of experience at Rio Tinto, Simon Trott most recently held the position of Head of the Iron Ore Division, a key sector of the group. His international career has led him to work in several countries, including Singapore, Serbia, Namibia, and the United States.
The new CEO has played a key role in rebuilding this division, strengthening the corporate culture and relationships with external partners. The main challenge for this leader will be to ensure Rio Tinto’s growth while controlling the rising costs observed in recent years. In addition, the expert will be responsible for leading major projects such as the Simandou iron ore deposit in Guinea. Finally, the manager will also be responsible for improving the group’s image, affected by several recent scandals.
