Delese Mimi Darko appointed AMA CEO

Delese Mimi Darko was appointed head of the African Medicines Agency (AMA) on June 4, 2025. With a degree in pharmacy from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 1991, an MBA from the University of Northampton in the United Kingdom, and a PhD in pharmacology, the new Director General has solid scientific and managerial expertise.

A remarkable career path was built within the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) of Ghana, from its inception in 1997. Several key divisions were led, including clinical trials, pharmacovigilance, and drug registration. The institutional transformation of the FDA, including the creation of a new logo and the establishment of technical committees, is also among the achievements. Under her leadership, the FDA reached level 3 maturity according to WHO standards.

The commitment extends to the continental level, through the presidency of the African Vaccines Regulatory Forum (AVAREF) and contributions to the WHO and CEPI.
