On February 12, Soilahoudine Moumini officially took up his duties as Director General of the Comoros National Electricity Corporation (SONELEC) during a technical handover in the presence of Ministry of Energy officials. An electrical engineer with a degree from the National School of Engineers in Brest, Moumini is chosen from three candidates to run the public company.
With international experience, the new DG spends ten years at Sagemcom in Tunisia, where he leads strategic initiatives in the technology sector. In 2023, he decided to return to Comoros, to coordinate a modernization project at the Ministry of Finance.
Upon taking office, Moumini expressed his desire to break with Sonelec’s past practices, including the inefficient management of generators. He therefore calls for an energy transition to renewable energy.
Moumini pledges to develop a collective recovery plan, while emphasizing the urgent need to manage the country’s energy needs more effectively.
