World Bank: Dr. Diop succeeds Victoria Kwakwa

Dr. Ndiamé Diop was appointed World Bank Vice President for East and Southern Africa on May 2, 2025. This new role places the Senegalese economist at the helm of a portfolio of nearly 400 projects in 26 countries, totaling over USD 76 billion.

Based in Nairobi, the new Vice President will lead programs focused on employment, energy, digital connectivity, education, health, and conflict resilience. This appointment follows the retirement of Victoria Kwakwa last March.

With 25 years of international experience, notably in the Philippines and Nigeria, Dr. Diop brings recognized expertise in economic policy and development. This track record demonstrates a strong commitment to progress in Africa.
