Baobab Avenue and Tsingy in the Spotlight
Morondava, in the Menabe region, will host the International Tourism Day festivities on September 27 and 28, 2025.
The city attracts numerous visitors each year thanks to its unique landscapes and cultural heritage. This 2025 edition is themed “Sustainable Tourism and Transformation,” to promote environmentally friendly development that benefits local communities.
Viviane Dewa, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, indicates that tourism contributes approximately 15% of Madagascar’s gross domestic product (GDP). This sector generates significant revenue, enhances heritage, and attracts investment. This day provides an opportunity to showcase the country’s assets to national and international visitors.
The organization is in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, as well as the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development. The program includes debates, exhibitions, parades, cultural and social activities, and guided tours of major sites in the Menabe region.
Tour operators, local authorities, and site managers are mobilizing their efforts to promote Morondava. Special packages and unique experiences will attract visitors and strengthen their commitment to environmental protection. The city is home to iconic sites such as the Avenue of the Baobabs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Grand Tsingy circuit in the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, which offer unique experiences and promote local tourism potential.
During these two days, the city transforms into a center of exchange and discovery, announced Viviane Dewa. “The festivities highlight local culture and landscapes, while encouraging sustainable and inclusive tourism,” she added.
