Evolution of tourist flows between January and April 2025
Between January and April 2025, Mauritius welcomed slightly fewer tourists than in 2024. According to Statistics Mauritius, the number of arrivals decreased by 1.2% over this period.
However, April was a very positive month, with 14,500 more tourists compared to last year. Over the first three months, the decline was more pronounced: 5.8% fewer, with 326,389 visitors in 2025 compared to 346,562 in 2024. In Europe, arrivals declined, particularly in France (-2.4%), Réunion (-3.1%), and the United Kingdom (-6.2%). Germany experienced the sharpest decline, with nearly 40% fewer tourists.
On the other hand, visitors from South Africa increased by 5.1%, with 22,870 tourists in the first quarter, compared to 21,756 in 2024. The Greater Peninsula also saw its arrivals increase, from 10,162 to 12,376.
Tourism Minister Richard Duval acknowledged that the start of the year was challenging, but he welcomed April’s strong results. He promised to provide more details soon, particularly with May figures. Tourism is doing well worldwide. According to the UN, more than 300 million people traveled in the first quarter of 2025, 5% more than in 2024.
The Kinga Club won the judo competition, beating out the Enfants des Comores and Djabal Club. Two journalists, Soulaimana Ibrahim and Karim Ahmad, were recognized for their commitment. A strong message was delivered in favor of a more active press on cultural topics.
