The Region is focusing on sustainability and upmarket development
15,000 jobs are directly dependent on tourism in Réunion, a sector that generates more than 5.6 billion EUR annually thanks to local and international visitors.
The island’s economy therefore derives a significant portion of its growth and social momentum from this sector. On the occasion of World Tourism Day, this September 27, the Region highlighted the strategic value of tourism. This activity contributes to the island’s attractiveness, supports local industries, and showcases its natural and cultural heritage.
Under the leadership of President Huguette Bello, this sector is central to the mandate’s project. The Region is committed to a sustainable and structuring model that respects resources and combines environmental protection, infrastructure improvement, and support for local businesses.
By 2025, several concrete actions illustrate this vision. The construction of the tourism and hospitality trades high school in Saint-André, scheduled for 2028, aims to train young people in hospitality and hospitality professions, in line with the region’s needs, the President stated during her speech.
The renovation of the Volcano Lodge is another flagship project. “Funded more than 60% by the Region, this project integrates the landscape and aims to improve the quality of the accommodation offering, to offer visitors an environmentally friendly stay,” she added.
According to her, “this sector is a vector for value creation, while preserving Reunion Island’s identity.” The Region aims to develop initiatives that support employment and open up new opportunities for younger generations.
