Regional air relaunch: Agreement between Reunion and Madagascar

A partnership to better connect the Indian Ocean islands

On June 18, 2025, during the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, Air Austral and Madagascar Airlines signed a strengthened partnership. This agreement includes a codeshare and a special fare plan (SPA).

This collaboration will offer routes between Réunion Island and several cities in Madagascar: Antananarivo, Nosy Be, Antsiranana, and Toamasina. In addition, passengers departing from the Big Island will benefit from easier access, via Réunion Island, to long-haul flights to Bangkok and Johannesburg.

The partnership also provides for the integration of Madagascar’s domestic network into Air Austral’s offerings. This enhanced domestic service will offer more connection and route options to travelers wishing to explore the Big Island. Another notable development is the creation of a new regional corridor linking Réunion, Toamasina (Tamatave), and Sainte-Marie.

This unprecedented service will support tourism and economic exchanges in the Indian Ocean. The section between Réunion and Tamatave will be operated by Air Austral, while the connection to Sainte-Marie will be operated by Madagascar Airlines.
