5G and Data Center: Comoros Moves Up a Gear

Towards a more connected and secure administration

This Monday, May 19, the Comoros celebrated World Telecommunications Day at the People’s Palace. This day was also an opportunity for the National ICT Regulatory Authority (ANRTIC) to celebrate its 15th anniversary.

This year’s theme: “Gender Equality in the Digital Transformation.” The goal is to place Comorian women at the heart of the country’s development through digital technology.

The Head of State, Azali Assoumani, reiterated that digital technology is very important for the country’s growth. The President hopes that digital technology will become a driving force for the economy and a factor that changes people’s lives. To this end, several actions are planned: offering more training, strengthening trust in digital technology, and improving laws.

A major new initiative was announced: the launch of a data center for the public administration. This center will better protect data and improve public services. This is an important step towards a more modern and connected administration.

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Oumouri Mmadi Hassani, spoke of the need for good internet connectivity everywhere, especially in schools and health centers. Hassani is working with an organization called Smart Africa to achieve a fast and stable connection.

Finally, ANRTIC has allocated 5G frequencies to the two Comorian operators. According to Said Bouhtane, Director of the department, this technology will help in many areas such as education and health. However, it is also important to ensure that 5G is accessible everywhere, in cities and rural areas.
