Young people from the Indian Ocean: a strong commitment to the climate

Renewable Energy and Fair Financing at the Heart of Discussions

More than 50 young people from the Indian Ocean region gathered for the third and final day of the IOCCY (Indian Ocean Climate Change Youth).

This event highlights their commitment to addressing the major climate challenges facing the region: cyclones, droughts, and floods. After three days of discussions and workshops, the young people adopted the Indian Ocean Youth Declaration. This document highlights their priorities: better waste management, the development of environmentally friendly economic activities (known as green and blue entrepreneurship), and easier access to financing for their climate-related projects.

During these days, participants attended training sessions on sustainable entrepreneurship and local partnerships, with rooms always full. They also took part in a collaborative game, the Eco-Challenge Course, to learn while having fun while developing their knowledge of the environment.

According to the official press release, the Open Space provided an opportunity to discuss five key themes: simple actions to protect the planet, active eco-citizenship, creative waste recycling, green and blue entrepreneurship, and the role of young people, known as “Little Climate Heroes.” Finally, the final of the public speaking competition, held at the Grand Palais, brought together six speakers who powerfully expressed their passion for environmental protection.

The IOCCY is coming to an end, but above all, the initiative launches a new dynamic of regional cooperation, driven by young people determined to take action for a sustainable and protected Indian Ocean.
