Priority to Communities and Families
The Malagasy government plans to gradually increase the budget allocated to local communities to 24% to support local development and improve the lives of the population.
In this context, the President of the Refoundation of the Republic, Michaël Randrianirina, accompanied by his wife, Elisa Randrianirina, celebrated Easter Monday with the residents of Ihosy, in the Ihorombe region. The First Lady, who is from this region, explained that this family connection motivated the choice of this town for the festivities.
On this occasion, the presidential couple distributed donations intended to support families and children. Residents received 40 million ariary (US$9,100) worth of beef, 10 live oxen, 25 kg of rice, and basic necessities for 1,500 households. School supplies were distributed to students at the EPP Centre II primary school, strengthening access to education in the region.
The President reiterated the importance of monitoring local taxes and revenues from natural resource exploitation to ensure equitable development. He also emphasized the priority given to the Malagasy language and to cultural and artistic activities in all regions. “A people who know their roots can choose their own path. The most developed nations protect their culture,” he stated. The Head of State specified that, during the national holidays, Malagasy culture will be showcased through artistic and cultural events, beginning on June 26 to celebrate Madagascar’s 66th anniversary of independence.
The President noted that the Ihorombe region possesses rich economic and cultural resources, particularly thanks to the Bara people. Ihosy plays a strategic role with several important highways: RN7, RN13, and RN27. Some roads remain in poor condition, and the government plans their gradual rehabilitation to facilitate the transport of goods and develop local trade.
The government is also continuing the restitution of expropriated land. During this visit, 500 land titles will be distributed, and 29 families in Ankily have already recovered their land. Rehabilitation work on the Ankily-Mahasoa road has begun.
