Eight families move into new apartments
President Wavel Ramkalawan inaugurated the “Vilaz Pozitivite” project in Pointe Larue on September 19, marking a new step in the government’s commitment to addressing housing needs.
During the ceremony, eight families received the keys to their three-bedroom apartments, completing the first phase of the Anse Françoise housing project. The Head of State and the Minister of Lands and Housing, Billy Rangasamy, unveiled a commemorative plaque to celebrate this achievement.
The project, valued at SCR 27.6 million (USD 1.85 million) and executed by Onivo Construction, includes two residential blocks and complete site infrastructure, including retaining walls, drainage systems, parking lots, and connections to new sewer lines. Road networks and stormwater management systems serve the entire village.
Minister Rangasamy explained that “Vilaz Pozitivite” includes 36 land bank plots, 16 affordable housing units, and 16 mid-range condominium units. The government is allocating nearly SCR 50 million to house 68 families under this program.
President Ramkalawan congratulated the residents and reminded them of their responsibilities. “Protect your neighborhoods from drug-related activities and respect your neighbors. Ensure children grow up in a positive environment,” he announced.

Looking ahead, the government plans to build 104 new units, bringing the total number of housing units delivered to 548 by the end of the year.
