The Government Takes Action
During the Council of Ministers on March 12, chaired by Head of State Azali Assoumani at the Beit Salam Palace, several development issues for the Comoros were discussed.
The Secretary General of the Government recommended the establishment of a special commission to assess current challenges. The objective is to accelerate the development of the country’s major cities, particularly Moroni, Mutsamudu, and Fomboni. This project aims to improve the urban living environment and meet the growing needs of these rapidly expanding areas.
Government spokesperson Fatima Ahamada addressed the issue of February salary payments. She highlighted the difficulties encountered by some citizens, particularly customers of the Banque Populaire des Comores (BPC), who are experiencing difficulties withdrawing funds. In response, several solutions were proposed. These include the reactivation of automated teller machines (ATMs) and the introduction of new bank cards adapted to the new system.
The Council also took measures to improve the competitiveness of cash crops such as vanilla, ylang-ylang, and cloves, aimed at strengthening their presence in international markets. Furthermore, a plan for waste management and mangrove protection was presented, highlighting the importance of the environment in the country’s sustainable development strategy.
