A more competent and professional police force thanks to the support of the British High Commission
On 8 March 2025, Seychelles celebrated the end of a three-year partnership with the British High Commission. This programme has strengthened the capacities of the local police and improved their efficiency, marking an important step in the modernization of law enforcement.
The closing ceremony, overseen by President Wavel Ramkalawan, highlighted the progress made. Experts from Northern Ireland, such as Sir George Hamilton QPM, Philip Knox and Raymond Murray QPM, worked with the Seychelles authorities to improve leadership and decision-making skills.
The British High Commissioner, Jeffrey Glekin, stressed the importance of this programme in making society safer. « Change takes time and courage, but it allows the police to develop new skills and become more professional », he announced.
Foreign Affairs Minister Errol Fonseka expressed his gratitude for the partnership, particularly for the advances in cybersecurity and border control. He also stressed the importance of training the police to better combat crime.
Commissioner Ted Barbe welcomed the development of the 2023-2025 strategic plan, a key step in ensuring the safety of citizens. Superintendent Jemmy Bouzin presented the results of the program, highlighting the improvement in governance, recruitment, inter-agency collaboration, as well as technological advances.
