Robotics: Seychelles on its way to the FIRST Global Challenge

President Ramkalawan supports the national team

Since 2017, Seychelles has participated in the FIRST Global Challenge, an international competition that brings together more than 190 countries.

The national team quickly acquired skills, confidence, and ambition, and has often raised the Seychelles flag on world stages.

On September 3, 2025, President Wavel Ramkalawan received the robotics delegation at State House before its departure for the ****2025 edition, scheduled for October 29 to November 1 in Panama City. The students presented their robot prototypes and shared their experiences and preparations.

The meeting began with remarks from the Principal Secretary for Education, John Lesperance. Then, the group’s Captain, Gabriel Suzette, introduced the members and explained their roles in the project. He emphasized the importance of teamwork for success.

The Head of State congratulated the young people for their creativity and commitment. “You embody the innovative and resilient spirit of Seychelles. Through your passion and efforts, you make our nation proud. Move forward with confidence, the whole country supports you,” he said.

In a symbolic gesture, Ramkalawan handed over the competition kit and presented each member with a pin bearing the national flag. He also filmed a video message of support for social media.

This year’s theme, Eco-Equilibrium, focuses on biodiversity and ecosystem protection. The team will participate in research projects, educational activities, and innovative challenges focused on technology and the environment.
