Comoros applies international standards
The security of communications networks is at the heart of the partnership between Comorian customs and the National Agency for the Regulation of Information and Communication Technologies (Anrtic).
On August 11, 2025, the two institutions signed an important agreement at Anrtic headquarters to better control telecommunications equipment arriving in the country. The Director of Anrtic, Said Bouhtane, and the Director of Customs, Ahmed Houmadi, attended the signing ceremony.
This partnership, which has existed since 2022, aims to check telephones, radio equipment, broadcasting and messaging equipment to ensure that they comply with current standards and rules. The agency’s Technical Director, Taoufik Mbae, explained that thanks to this agreement, imported equipment will be better controlled. “We will be able to check that all equipment meets standards before entering the country,” he said.
This cooperation was set up with the help of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Telecommunications and the general secretariat of the government. To succeed, some agency agents have undergone special training to carry out precise technical checks. The aim is to make the telecommunications market more secure, protect consumers and ensure network security. Before, there was not enough control, which could pose risks.
Comoros is part of region 1 according to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). This means that the country must meet strict standards, similar to those in Europe. This partnership is not intended to ban imported equipment, but to protect users.
