Lake Iarivo Lights Up the 65th anniversary
This Thursday, June 26, 2025, Madagascar celebrated the 65th anniversary of its independence. This celebration was marked by powerful moments that were joyful, modern, and united.
On the evening of June 25, a unique show took place at Lake Iarivo in Antananarivo. For the first time, the fireworks were launched at this location, instead of at Lake Anosy. Light displays, water jets, and drones accompanied the spectacle. Young and old alike came out in large numbers to admire this spectacular display. The atmosphere was festive and friendly.
On June 26, a major official ceremony was held at the Mahamasina Stadium. President Andry Rajoelina delivered a speech. He spoke of the unity of the Malagasy people, the country’s development, and the future of young people. Military parades, traditional songs, and dances enlivened the day.
In neighborhoods and villages, the population also took part in the celebrations. Family meals were shared, traditional games were organized, and musical stages were set up to liven up the atmosphere. Several associations and businesses carried out social activities, donating food, toys, and various donations to shelters. This year’s national holiday had a special character, according to the organizers. The Malagasy people’s love for their country was expressed through the various celebrations. “Tradition was respected, while allowing for touches of modernity. “The result reflects the image of a united people, resolutely looking to the future,” said an official.
