Jurie Strydom appointed CEO of Old Mutual

Jurie Strydom has been appointed CEO of Old Mutual, South Africa’s second-largest insurance group.

The expert has over twenty years of experience in the insurance industry. His career has been primarily at Sanlam, where he rose from actuary in 1999 to CEO of Sanlam Life Insurance from 2016 to 2022. Prior to that, the new CEO led Regent Insurance from 2007 to 2015. Having earned an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2011, Strydom joined Old Mutual in December 2023 as an independent director.

In 2022, the specialist also founded FSP Hub, a platform for insurance intermediaries, while also chairing an evangelical educational NGO. His primary mission will be to lead the strategic shift toward digital banking, in partnership with Clarence Nethengwe, CEO of OM Bank, the group’s 100% digital bank. This focus aims to strengthen Old Mutual’s position in the African market, in a context of rapid transformation in the sector.
