Health: President Ramkalawan inaugurates a dialysis center

A project that changes the lives of kidney patients

Good news for the residents of La Digue. Since May 6, patients suffering from kidney problems no longer need to travel to Mahé or Praslin for treatment.

A new hemodialysis unit was officially inaugurated at St. Mary’s Hospital, in the presence of President Wavel Ramkalawan. This center was built through a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and AMSA Renal Health Care. The facility will allow patients to receive regular care on site, without the long and tiring travel between islands.

In his speech, the Head of State reiterated that all citizens must have access to quality care, regardless of where they live. President Ramkalawan described this unit as an important service to save lives, alleviate the suffering of families, and restore dignity to patients.

This opening is also one of the promises made by the President in his 2025 State of the Nation Address. The President stated at the time that La Digue would soon have a dialysis center.

The Ministry confirmed that the facility will be well maintained and operational thanks to regular monitoring by AMSA. This unit represents a major step towards better access to healthcare for all Seychelles islands.
